Dear colleagues,
The Academy of Fine Arts and Design (AFAD),
Central European Institute for Art on Paper Conservation (CEIAP) in Bratislava,
Slovakia
and Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) in Andover, MA, USA,
would like to invite you
for the third time to participate in an international
workshop
on the preservation of photographs in September 10-14, 2007.
The Photograph Preservation Workshop (Part III)
is organized in cooperation with the Metropolitan Museum NYC, NY, USA.
The workshop will be held at the AFAD in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Instructors for this year workshop will be
Monique Fischer, Senior Conservator of NEDCC
and Nora W. Kennedy - Sherman Fairchild Conservator of Photographs,
The Metropolitan Museum of Art (MET), New York, NY, USA.
The five-day workshop will focus on photograph
history, treatments on
silver gelatine prints, ethical issues in conservation treatment, various
ways of the documentation of conservation treatment, the housing and storage
of treated photographs and other related topics.
On the program si also discussion about the progress made in photograph
conservation in ones respective country since the beginning of our workshops.
Participants will be expected to present a brief talk on this theme.
Hosting curator from the MET Mia Fineman will be in cooperation with Bohunka
Koklesova, professor at the AFAD, presenting lectures on the History and
Connoisseurship of Photographs.
Boris Kvasnica, a Head of Conservation Department at AFAD will Introduce
the Database Created for the Conservation Program at AFAD.

The workshop will be taught in English.
All conservators who have been accepted for the Institute
on Photographs Conservation in Andover, MA, USA (October of 2007) should
take part in Bratislava's
workshop.
All travel costs and living expenses will be covered by grants from the
Trust for Mutual Understanding, New York, NY, and Getty Foundation, Los
Angeles, CA.
Please note that Insurance and visa (if needed) is to be covered by the
participants. Visa for Slovakia are not required for EU and US citizens.
We all look forward to working with you again. We hope to see participants
from last year's workshops as well as new ones. We are especially inviting
faculty members of the Art Academies to participate.
